The Upper Cubatão River offers a lot of adrenaline for those that have already some experience with rafting and canoeing. Using inflatable kayaks (“ducks”) this 4 hour expedition will take you through rapids of level III-IV in an isolated part of the river.
The scenery is beautiful: the right margin borders the Serra do Tabuleiro National Park, the biggest Atlantic Rainforest reserve in the vicinity of Florianopolis. These mountains, which are visible from everywhere in the city, have peaks over 5,000 feet, creating steep, narrow canyons rich in Mata Atlântica.
Pick up from the hotel at 07:30 and transfer to the rafting base in Caldas da Imperatriz, approximately one hour away from downtown Florianopolis.
After meeting the guide, continue by road further inland to the little village of Vargem Grande, where the expedition starts.
The 4-hour run is a mixture of class III-IV rapids, with some calm stretches good for swimming. There are several small waterfalls where portage of the kayaks might be necessary. At halfway point, there is a stop for a rest and a quick snack next to a waterfall in the middle of the Atlantic rainforest.
The expedition ends close to the rafting base where you can shower and change.
After lunch in a local restaurant, return to Florianópolis, arriving back at the hotel mid to late afternoon.
For this expedition, clients must have done at least one rafting trip before and be able to paddle in a small, inflatable kayak. Each kayak accommodates one passenger and one instructor.
